In fact, the synchronizer is a friction plate disposed on the combined sleeve and the gear set. Unlike the conventional friction plate, its friction surface is tapered. The function of the friction plates is to advance the friction between the straight teeth and the vertical teeth of the disc to transmit the energy of the larger speed to the one with the smaller speed, so that the smaller speed increases the speed. It is synchronized with the speed of the one with the higher speed. This not only ensures normal shifting, but also acts as a buffer. The number and material of the cone friction plates directly affect the performance of the synchronizer.
Nowadays, the car equipped with the synchronizer is simple to operate. It only needs to: 1. Depress the clutch; 2. Retract the gear to neutral and push it to the gear to be changed; 3. Release the clutch. [It should be noted that when the car shifts between the forward gear and the reverse gear, the brake must be used to stop the gear before the car is stopped, otherwise the gearbox may be damaged. 】
